Overview: The Antinori Family of Florence, one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished wine producers, has lived in Tuscany since the 14th century and will celebrate its 624th anniversary as winemakers in the year 2009. The Antinori reputation has grown throughout the centuries.

They have pioneered techniques in cloning, fermentation and aging that have enhanced wines from Tuscany and Umbria while retaining their traditional character. For 26 generations, the Antinori Family has led a “Renaissance” in Italian winemaking by combining long traditions, a love of authenticity and a dynamic innovative spirit. This innovative spirit remains at the core of Antinori philosophy: to maximize the undiscovered potential in winemaking while insuring to safeguard the wealth of tradition, culture and taste which gives Antinori wines their unique identity.

Throughout its long history the family has always personally managed the business .The current company president, Marchese Piero Antinori, has stated that “age-old roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have not served to inhibit our innovative spirit.” This spirit will continue as Piero Antinori’s three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, join the company to ensure that the traditions are maintained. Today, the Antinori Family continues to live in Florence and produce some of Italy’s finest wines.

Palazzo Antinori, a 15th century landmark located near the Arno River in the center of Renaissance Florence, serves as offices and the family residence for the last 500 years. As well as the family’s traditional heritage of estates in Tuscany and Umbria, investments have been made over time in other areas highly-suited to quality wine production in a quest to promote new terroirs, rich in winegrowing potential. An illustration of this is the Antinori Family’s California wine estate – Antica Napa Valley. As president, Marchese Piero Antinori has shaped the company over the last 40 years into one whose wines are prized by connoisseurs the world over. Born: Piero Antinori was born in July 1938, the second of three children of Marchese Niccolo Antinori and Carlotta della Gherardesca. Piero has an older sister, Llaria, and a younger brother, Lodovico.
